We offer tours at two water treatment plants; one in Central Contra Costa County and the other in East Contra Costa County. The Bollman facility is located at 2015 Bates Road, Concord, and the Randall-Bold facility is located at 3760 Neroly Road, Oakley. Please indicate on the Water Treatment Plant Tour Request Form which facility you would like to visit.
This program is popular and demand exceeds availability. Therefore, registration is handled through a lottery. The lottery is open every year during the month of August. To enter the lottery, you must submit a Water Treatment Plant Tour Lottery Request Form below. You will be notified if your school was selected in the lottery. Early in September, lottery results will be communicated via email, and booking trips will begin soon after.
Water treatment plant tours are booked primarily on Wednesdays. Leave a comment on the form if you want one on another day of the week. We will make every attempt to accommodate.
Once the lottery is finished and you are notified that you will get a trip(s), you will receive an email with proposed dates. You can accept those or ask for other options. Water treatment plant tours happen mostly on Wednesdays. Tours are 90 minutes long and occur in the morning. You can notate preferences in terms of days of the week or months of the year on the form; however, dates will be proposed based upon availability.
There will be plenty of time to schedule a bus for your trip(s). We ask that you confirm your trip(s) with us after you get confirmation of busing.
The request form asks how many tours you will need for the grade level at your school. Only one teacher per grade level per school needs to fill out a form.
Most of our Water Treatment Plant tours are scheduled on Wednesdays during the normal school year. Two tours can be scheduled in a day: the 1st tour is conducted 8:40-10:10 a.m. and the 2nd tour is 10:30 a.m. to noon. This will usually allow one bus to shuttle the two classes.
The Water Treatment Plant Tours through are designed for 5th grade students.
The maximum number of students we can accommodate at a time is 40.
We must have at least three adults (teachers included) in order to conduct the program, with a maximum of eight. Younger siblings are not permitted.
