As summer arrives, Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) is providing an update on the current water supply situation. With our Los Vaqueros Reservoir at a promising 78% capacity after significant storms this past winter led to more water in the Delta, we are making progress in our drought recovery efforts. Water Supply Update
Thanks to the generous snowstorms and rainfall this past winter, the Los Vaqueros Reservoir, a vital water storage reservoir for CCWD, stands at a commendable 78% full as of June 30, 2023. This is a significant improvement compared to November 30, 2022, when the reservoir was 47% full. The 50,000 acre-foot increase in Los Vaqueros Reservoir since last fall is attributed to water pumped in directly from Contra Costa Water District’s intakes in the Delta that came from snowpack in the Sierras, as well as some runoff from local rainfall. However, it's important to remember that we are still in drought recovery mode. The recent wet season offers hope, but we must remain diligent in our efforts to use water wisely.
