Storm Damage Recovery

What a start to 2023! While we needed some rain, the multiple storms throughout January caused a significant amount of damage throughout the Los Vaqueros Watershed. Contra Costa Water District and our partners at Los Vaqueros Recreation Company are hard at work repairing storm damages to roads and infrastructure, making it safe for the public to access once again. Most trails and public areas have reopened however some trails will take longer to repair and will remain closed temporarily.

While we have been hard at work repairing areas impacted by storms, golden eagle nesting season has begun! Trails near golden eagle nests will remain closed temporarily to give the birds the best chance to raise baby eagles. The last two years have been dismal for eagles because of the drought. We are hopeful the rain will result in a better breeding season for all of our wildlife.

Please respect all trail closures and traffic control measures on main access roads. These are in place for your safety and for the safety of other visitors, and citations may be issued. Hazardous conditions may exist and trail conditions can change, especially after rain.
