District staff recently participated in the Contra Costa Economic Partnership's Environmental Science Camp. The weeklong camp promotes STEAM and water industry jobs through the lens of environmental engineering giving local high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while learning about local environmental issues and innovative ways to solve them. The camp is supported by local agencies and establishments like Central San, CCWD, Chevron, Dow Industries, and others. In recent years, with the help of CCWD and Central San, it has developed a water-centric focus. More than 40 students participated in the event this year, with students receiving lectures and completing assignments throughout the week, augmented by field trips to partnering agency facilities. The culminating activity is a group Public Service Announcement activity and presentation to a panel of industry judges from the partnering agencies.
