Students with special needs and their caretakers come together with community volunteers for a fun day of fishing they may not otherwise experience. These events provide a refreshing break from their daily challenges. Spreading a positive message that kids with disabilities can accomplish anything, we include all children, despite their limitations. This is all made possible through the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation (C.A.S.T. = Catch A Special Thrill) and volunteers from a local fishing group, the Angry Anglers. The volunteers make a big difference in the lives of kids with special needs.
Every October, we host a C.A.S.T. for Kids Fishing Day at the Los Vaqueros Reservoir. We partner local fishing experts and students with special needs (under the supervision of a parent or guardian) where they are shown proper fishing techniques and receive natural resources education. The fishing excursion is followed up by a BBQ lunch and an awards ceremony. The Los Vaqueros Marina proves the perfect backdrop for a rewarding day of shore and boat fishing where participants have the option of fishing from the shore, dock or by boat. We also have large pontoon boats that can accommodate wheelchairs.
