Students with special needs and their caretakers come together with community volunteers for a fun day of fishing they may not otherwise experience. These events provide a refreshing break from their daily challenges. Spreading a positive message that kids with disabilities can accomplish anything, we include all children, despite their limitations. This is all made possible through the C.A.S.T for Kids Foundation (C.A.S.T = Catch A Special Thrill) and local volunteers. The volunteers make a big difference in the lives of kids with special needs.
Every October, we host a C.A.S.T for Kids Fishing Day at the Los Vaqueros Reservoir. We pair local fishing experts with special needs students (under the supervision of a parent or guardian) where they are shown proper fishing techniques and receive a natural resources education. The fishing excursion is followed up by a BBQ lunch and an awards ceremony. The Los Vaqueros Marina proves the perfect backdrop for a rewarding day of shore and boat fishing. We also have large pontoon boats that can accommodate wheelchairs.
