"We
Are Committed to Meeting The Challenge"
The customers of the
Contra Costa Water District rely on the San Francisco Bay Sacramento-San
Joaquin Delta as our sole
source of water supply.
That makes CCWD unique
in California and has shaped the development of the District and its policies.
Depending on the ever-changing Delta has forged the Contra Costa Water
District into a dynamic and forward-thinking organization that must work
cooperatively with water interests statewide to ensure Delta water quality
is protected and enhanced.
Among the initiatives
the District has undertaken is a new Alternative
Intake Project that would extend the Los Vaqueros Reservoir intake
to the Central Delta. This not only provides better water for the District's
customers, but also maximizes the investment made in Los
Vaqueros Reservoir and improves operating flexibility during Delta
emergencies. CCWD has been instrumental in forming a regional partnership
that obtained $1.6 million in grants to research advanced water treatment practices.
The
District owns and operates two state-of-the-art water treatment plants and is known as a leader in water treatment research. Los Vaqueros Reservoir
is a model of modern and responsible watershed development and a resource
that ensures our customers will continue to have their expectations of
high quality water met.
The U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency has recognized leadership in environmental protection
and treatment by naming CCWD a "Clean
Water Partner for the 21st Century." The EPA chose CCWD for its
extraordinary efforts to protect and improve the Los Vaqueros Watershed
and help further national clean water goals.
CCWD has implemented
comprehensive long-range planning that focuses expenditures on the highest
priorities, and keeps CCWD rate increases below inflation. Over the past
10 years, the District has invested $800 million in new assets and infrastructure
replacement, yet rates have increased at half the inflation rate.
Approximately 550,000
people in central and eastern Contra Costa County depend on the Contra
Costa Water District to provide a reliable supply of quality water at
a reasonable rate. We are committed to meeting that challenge.
