CCWD Starts Annual Cleaning of Canal

Portions of canal trail will be closed in Concord, starting Jan. 17, 2012

The Contra Costa Water District's annual canal cleaning and maintenance project on the Contra Costa Canal Loop will continue through March 30, 2012.

This project temporarily shuts down the canal loop, draining it of water. Some adjacent trail sections, through Clyde, Concord, Walnut Creek, and Pleasant Hill to Martinez will be closed while crews clean and perform repairs to the canal.

CCWD will be closing portions of the Contra Costa Canal Trail Monday-Friday during work hours starting Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the eastern end of the trail near Willow Pass Road, we'll keep you updated on trail closures as the project progresses.

As in past years, the Water District asks canal water customers to remove their canal connections and shut off their pumps in order to avoid damage to their equipment.

The District’s canal irrigation groups have been asked to notify all of their own members regarding this project.

This project is part of CCWD's continuing effort to maintain good, reliable water service to all of its customers. Performing this work during the winter enables the cleaning and repair efforts to be completed economically and with the least impact on customers.
