CCWD Board of Directors Recognizes Customers for Exemplary Conservation

Customers Overall Continue to be Committed to Conservation

CONCORD – Responding to the call for a 15 percent reduction in water use as part of a Drought Management Program, Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) customers have reduced water usage between May and September by 20 percent overall.

“Our customers are being extremely responsive to the reality that the state is in a third year of drought and may face more dry years ahead,” said General Manager Walter J. Bishop.

At their meeting on October 21, 2009, the CCWD Board of Directors recognized two customers who have implemented exemplary conservation practices that can be shared with other customers to help them achieve their own conservation goals.

Two Customers Recognized by CCWD Board of Directors on October 21, 2009

  • City of Pleasant Hill for proactively managing over 65 landscape irrigation accounts and reducing consumption by more than 50 percent, saving more than 4.5 million gallons since May 2009.
  • Dana Hills Homeowners’ Association (Clayton) for continuing their active management of their landscape and saving more than 1.5 million gallons since May 2009 compared to their historical use.

Despite some early storms this fall, California remains in the third year of drought and conservation efforts must continue.  Heading into the winter, customers should be adjusting outdoor irrigation timers for the season – even shutting them off completely and manually watering as necessary.  “Water conserved now will be supply insurance for next year should conditions remain dry” Bishop said.
