Leadership in Water Industry
CONCORD --- One of the
nation’s leading professional engineering groups, the AmericanAcademy
of Environmental Engineers (AAEE), today granted its highest award to Walter J.
Bishop, General Manager of the Contra Costa Water District.
Mr. Bishop, known
for his local, national and international leadership in the water industry,
received the Edward J. Cleary Award at ceremonies at the National Press Club in
Washington, DC.
According to the AAEE, the
Cleary Award is given annually to an “individual who is an outstanding
performer in the management of environmental protection…demonstrates exemplary
professional conduct, personal leadership, originality in devising new
environmental protection techniques and sensitivity and responsiveness to
social, economic, and political factors in environmental protection.”
Mr. Bishop continues to take a leadership
role in efforts to implement immediate actions to address water quality, supply
and conservation issues in California.AAEE noted that among his many career
accomplishments, “Mr. Bishop’s advocacy for restoring California’s Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
has led to statewide and national recognition as a distinguished leader.”
