Outstanding Fishing, Challenging Hiking, Make Los Vaqueros a Fun Place to Visit

Please take a look at this video of extraordinary animal photos at Los Vaqueros taken by Photographer Jean Douglas of Antioch. See a full-size version of this video here.

Los Vaqueros is a nearly 20,000-acre protected watershed that offers outstanding fishing, challenging hikes and an opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of the area.

CCWD's Los Vaqueros Reservoir was expanded in 2012, and can now store up to 160,000 acre-feet of high quality water for the District's customers.

There are two entrances to the watershed. The north end of the watershed near Brentwood, includes the updated John Muir Interpretive Center. You can hike to the top of the dam, and there are a variety of challenging trails available with rewarding views. Here's a map.

Our Podcast Trail Tour, a guided hike that you can download onto your smart phone, starts from the Interpretive Center.

Save Mt. Diablo also produced a neat tour for smart phones that starts at the Marina. CCWD helped fund this very complete tour.

The south end of the watershed near Livermore is open with trails, boat rentals and shoreline fishing. The Marina has moved, and has complete fishing supplies and and electric boat rentals. No private boats are allowed on the reservoir.

For more information, call the Marina at (925) 371-2628, or here for more on costs for fishing permits.

We have a weather page, so you can see all the conditions at the reservoir.
