Don't be complacent with West Nile Virus

With a renewed threat from the mosquito-spread West Nile Virus, there are new warnings across the state to be wary whenever people are outdoors.

Fortunately, Los Vaqueros doesn’t have a major mosquito problem.

There are a lot of natural predators to mosquitoes out here — bats, frogs and birds — so we’re able to maintain a good ecological balance.

That doesn’t mean hikers and anglers can be complacent. West Nile Disease can cause severe illness and even kill.

It’s recommended that wherever you hike or go outdoors this summer — including LV — that you wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants and apply mosquito repellent with DEET.
