  1. Who is eligible for CCWD Water Education classroom programs?

This program is available for public, private and home schools within the Water District service area (Martinez, Concord, Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley and parts of Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, and Brentwood). Schools outside of the CCWD service area are not eligible to use the program.

  1. How do I book a date?

To book a date, you must submit a fully completed, legible registration form. Incomplete or illegible forms will be returned. At least four weeks notice is required and all registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. When can I book a program?

Registrations will be accepted for the upcoming school year starting May 1st. Requests received prior to May 1st for the next school year will not be considered.

  1. Can I register by phone?

No, registrations can only be submitted by mail, fax or in person.

  1. How do I know what dates are available?

We ask you to give us three difference date choices. We do our best to accommodate your 1st choice, however, depending on availability, it may be necessary to confirm your 2d or 3rd choice, so please ensure that all the dates you give us will work for you and your school calendar before submitting your registration form. The education calendar on our website will also show the available dates for the different programs.

  1. Can you hold a date for me until I sent in my registration form?

Due to the popularity of our programs, we are unable to hold dates. To book a date, you must submit a fully completed, legible registration form. All registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. How will I know that my date is confirmed?

Most registrations are processed within two weeks and a confirmation packet will be mailed to the contact person designated on the registration form. Confirmation packets contain important information. Do not assume you have a reservation until you receive you confirmation. If you have not received your confirmation within three weeks, please contact the education coordinator at 925-688-8307 or mhook@ccwater.com

  1. What programs do you offer?

We offer classroom programs for 2d through 6th grade. The 2d grade program addresses how water moves from snow in the mountains to water coming out of a tap. The 3d grade class deals with some of the properties of water, including its different states. The 4th grade class looks at the history of water in California, as well as California water geography and rainfall. The 5th grade class deals with the water cycle and treatment of drinking water. The 6th grade class discusses how water moves underground, and how ground water and surface water are connected. These classes can be adapted for special needs students.

  1. When are your programs scheduled?

Our programs are offered Monday through Friday during the normal school day.

  1. How long are your programs?

The 2d and 3rd grade programs are 60 minutes in length. The 4th grade program is 90 minutes and the 5th grade program is 75 minutes in length. The 6th grade program is one class length, and varies by school.

  1. How many presentations can I schedule in one day?

We normally schedule no more than 4 classes in one day. Usually the maximum number of 4th or 5th grade programs would be 3 in one day.  If you have a large number of classes to schedule spread them over more than one day. Use a separate registration form for each day. Starting the classes in the morning, without long gaps between any two classes, is preferred. For 6th grade we can normally do a full day’s worth of classes in one classroom.

  1. Will your instructor move from class to class?

Our instructor can either move from class to class, or set up in one place and have classes rotate through, for all programs except the 6th grade program. If our instructor is going to be moving from one class to the next try to allow 5-10 minutes between classes to move and set up.  The 6th grade program should be done in one classroom with the students rotating through.

  1. Can I combine classes?

Unfortunately, we do not allow classes to be combined for individual classroom presentations. All class presentations include hands-on activities that are designed for one class at a time.

  1. Is there a cost for this program?

No, all Contra Costa Water District classes are provided at no cost to schools within the Water District service area (Martinez, Concord, Bay Point, Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley and parts of Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, and Brentwood).
