Water Education Program
Registration for 2011-2012 School Year

To give everyone a fair chance CCWD will NOT accept requests prior to May 2nd.

Signup forms are attached. Print off, fill out, and fax in. Note that there are separate forms for each type of program (i.e. treatment plant tour, classroom presentation)  Due to Water District operations there are some significant changes in the education program this year please read details below.

Water Education Program Changes 2011-12:

Los Vaqueros Watershed Field Trip (3rd grade and up): You may have heard construction has started on the expansion of the Los Vaqueros Reservoir. During construction there will be no access to the entire north side of the watershed. This includes the Interpretive Center. There will be NO watershed field trips during construction. We estimate the watershed will reopen in spring 2012.  By late fall 2011, we should know when construction will be finished and when we can resume the watershed education programs. We will start accepting reservations when we are sure of the reopening date. We are NOT accepting requests for LV Watershed programs at this time. Please check back in the fall.

Water Treatment Plant Tours (5th grade and up): Since we will most likely be concentrating on watershed visits in the spring  we will only accept requests for  treatment plant tours of Bollman (Concord) or Randall-Bold (Oakley) Water Treatment Plants for tours from September 7, 2011 through February 10, 2012. If we will are able to do WTP tours after February 10, 2012 we will announce that in the fall and accept those reservations at that time. Starting May 2rd we will be accepting treatment plant tour requests for September 7, 2011- February 10, 2012. If you plan to tour the CCWD, water treatment plant make sure you make your reservation for the September-February timeframe. To maximize available resources, schools are encouraged to schedule two classes per day using the same bus to shuttle the classes.

NOTE: Pittsburg schools can now tour the Pittsburg Water Treatment Plant. You will still request the tour through CCWD and we will help set it up with Pittsburg WTP. These tours can be scheduled throughout the year. CCWD will still reimburse for the bus.

Classroom Presentations (2nd grade and up): Classroom presentations can be scheduled throughout the school year. If you plan to register for watershed programs, DO NOT wait to schedule your classroom presentations. After the watershed opens in the spring, it may be difficult to schedule the date you want. Remember the presentations stand on their own and can easily be conducted months prior to the watershed field trip. Starting May 2rd we will accept classroom presentation requests for the entire school year.

Delta Discovery Voyage for 5th Grade: Once again the Delta Discovery Voyage will sail for one week in September and eight weeks in January/February. School Districts will be given winter voyage dates in early fall and will fill them. If you have questions please contact your District representative (Sue Ferguson-PUSD, Lorie O’Brien- MDUSD, Dena Palmer-AUSD, Anne Allen-OUESD, all other schools can get directly with me.) note: If you are interested in the September dates, get with me directly after May 2nd, there may be a few slots open.
