The
48-mile Contra Costa Canal conveys water through
Knightsen, Oakley, Antioch, Pittsburg, Bay Point,
Concord, Clyde, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill,
Pacheco and Martinez.
Fishing,
swimming, or playing in the canal is very dangerous. That's why the Contra Costa Water District makes
one of its professional canal safety patrol
officers available for school assemblies.
They
speak to children in a friendly and interactive
way. Kids listen to stories about how they can
have fun on the canal trails without endangering
themselves. They learn about a canal rescue,
and hear a clear message about the importance
of being safe.
This
program supplements the "Canal
Safety Newsletter" that is given to
school children each spring, as well as the
Canal Safety Video that appears on this web
site and on community television.
Teachers
can also use the on-line Canal
Safety Quiz to help students learn about
canal safety. Students who complete the quiz
can print a "Canal Pal Safety Certificate."
The
30-minute assembly presentation is FREE of charge
for all students within the CCWD service
area.
