The Contra Costa Water District has an exceptional program designed for you
If you’re an upper-division or graduate student in Engineering or Construction Management, the Contra Costa Water District has a hands-on summer internship program that will provide you with valuable career-related experience while you learn about the opportunities and challenges available to you in the water industry.
Interns are paid between $17.56 to $21.34 per hour, depending upon education level and experience.

How does the program work?
Each year, up to eight summer internships are granted. The program involves part-time or full-time work (up to 500 hours maximum) with interns engaging in a wide variety of projects and assignments involving research, reporting and presentations, engineering designs and field work. Interns are typically assigned to a specific department for the duration of their employment .
To support you in learning as much as possible, you’ll have the additional benefit of mentoring and coaching from a professional member of the CCWD team.
The program also includes informational sessions covering relevant topics that are of interest to students in the field of engineering and construction management. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in meaningful work where you’ll be able to make a difference while gaining valuable career-related experience, all while receiving a generous salary!
What are the eligibility requirements?
- To be considered for the program, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Be an upper-division or graduate student in good standing from an ABET accredited program in one of the following fields: Engineering (civil, mechanical, structural, or environmental) or Construction Management

- Be able to work on a full-time or part-time basis on a flexible schedule during the summer period. Longer term assignments may become available (maximum duration: 500 hours) depending upon projects.
- Be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and data-base software.
- Be willing to work in a challenging environment where your assignments add value and provide a great learning opportunity as well as direct career-related experience.
- Be interested in a future career in the water industry, where you’ll have the personal satisfaction of knowing you are making a positive difference for the environment and the communities you serve!

Student Intern applications will be reviewed and those deemed most qualified will be provided an opportunity to further discuss the program and the student’s goals with departmental hiring managers. Internships are usually filled by June each year. Offers of employment are dependent upon passing a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
