To increase public safety, improve water quality and increase flood protection, the Contra Costa Water District is replacing 1,900 feet of unlined Contra Costa Canal with buried pipeline in Oakley. The project is between Highway 4 and Marsh Creek.

As part of the project, the District is installing a temporary bypass pumping system to supplement its water supply while the canal is out of service.

The project is located entirely within the canal right-of-way, minimizing impacts to surrounding areas. Every effort is being made to minimize disruptions to the surrounding neighborhoods while work is underway. The construction site will be maintained to reduce noise and dust.

Marsh Creek Trail will be closed at times to ensure public safety. The first trail closure is April 15 – April 29 for the construction of a temporary ramp needed for the bypass pumping system. The ramp will be removed during a second trail closure at the end of the project.

Where?
Work is underway along the Contra Costa Canal between Marsh Creek and Highway 4 in Oakley.

When?
April 6 through December 31, 2009. Work is scheduled for weekdays (Monday through Friday). Weekend work is not anticipated, however it may become necessary in order to complete the project on schedule. Daytime work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What to Expect:
To access the project the contractor will use Highway 4 and Main Street and surrounding streets in Oakley. Local motorists can expect increased construction traffic in the area. Additionally, the contractor will be working on top of the levees so neighbors may hear and see construction activities.

The District regrets any inconvenience this project may cause and looks forward to working with the citizens of Oakley toward its successful completion. Your cooperation as we complete this important work is greatly appreciated.
